Water and Sanitation
摘要
This article outlines the UN proposals and policy on addressing water and sanitation issues around the globe. Although the right to water is recognized by the organization as a fundamental human right, millions of people suffer from a lack of quality or any water and sanitation services. UN policy in this area is analyzed in key policy documents and initiatives. The institutional framework established to coordinate and facilitate implementation of UN initiatives in the field of water supply and sanitation is outlined. Emphasis is placed on Sustainable Development Goal 6 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which aims to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all by 2030. Despite efforts to date, the evaluation of implementation progress indicates that the world is far off-track to achieve SDG 6, which will deprive millions of people of their right to water.
