Bone is a hierarchical structure containing elastic (collagen) and stiff mineralised nanoparticles (hydroxyapatite) materials that undergoes permanent bone remodelling and repair of microfractures and can adapt to mechanical loading. Bones’ resistance to fracture includes mechanisms of energy absorption of operating forces to avoid failure and bone fracture healing mechanisms in case of macrofractures.
