In Africa, culture, identity and colonialism are not strange bedfellows. Therefore, in Africa, there is no contestation about the impact of colonialism on culture and identity. However, there is a seeming endless contestation about whether what is known as the metaphysical empire exists at all, and if it exists, whether it is colonialism in disguise. Even if the metaphysical empire exists, and even if it is colonialism in disguise, in view of its nature it can only be cultural colonialism. Consequently, among those who acknowledge the existence of the metaphysical empire, there is a debate about whether the metaphysical empire impacts African culture and identity the same way colonialism did.

摘要
