The connection between Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) and sustainable development is increasingly acknowledged, as both address modern human challenges such as well-being, safe and decent employment, economic growth, and the climate crisis. Education should play a crucial role in tackling OSH issues through a preventive rather than reactive approach, so the integration of OSH into education at all levels and across all professional and academic training domains is highly relevant. This study aims to evaluate higher education students’ perceptions of their training and knowledge in OSH to enhance the formation and information provided to young adults in this field. In order to achieve these objectives, a questionnaire was applied to the students of Professional Higher Technical Courses (TeSP) of the Polytechnic of Leiria in the academic years 2022–2023 and 2023–2024, involving 268 and 176 students respectively, totalling 444 students. The results show that around 75% of students reported having received training and, regarding the identification of acronyms associated with OSH, it was found that 60,8% of the students only identified one or two acronyms out of a possible six. These results indicate the pertinence of continuing and reinforcing OSH training at the various levels of education.

This study aims to evaluate higher education students’ perceptions of their training and knowledge in OSH to enhance the formation and information provided to young adults in this field.
