Since the earliest moments when scholars, businesses, governments, and local administrators coined the term “Smart City”, the concept has had an inherently interdisciplinary nature, as urban intelligence intersects with the various domains in which city life unfolds. For this reason, the smart city must be studied from a multidisciplinary perspective, not only by examining its various components individually, but above all by analyzing the interrelations among them, as these dimensions mutually influence one another within the smart city context. The second edition of the Smart City Conference organized by the University of Genoa aims primarily to foster dialogue and comparison of research findings in the field of smart cities from a multidisciplinary perspective. This introductory chapter of the conference proceedings provides a unified perspective for examining the most significant contributions presented at the conference. The analysis of these scientific contributions is conducted from an evolutionary standpoint, taking into account the progressive transformation of the smart city concept over the years—from a technological platform to a model of good practice in urban governance.

摘要
