This chapter introduces the methodology, data collection, and analysis processes used in this research. The research was designed as an embedded research project, in which the researcher served as a volunteer across three National Park Service sites for a period of approximately three months each and 32 hours/week, while conducting interviews with NPS rangers and volunteers at parks within a roughly 150-mile radius of the three parks. The three hub parks were Cumberland Gap National Historical Park, Prince William Forest Park, and Gulf Islands National Seashore. This chapter further describes the process for creating the research and volunteer agreements with NPS to successfully implement the research.

摘要
