The present study takes as its point of departure the role of sport and physical education in the context of war and peace, with the analysis focusing on the development of the concept of peace in sport. On the one hand, this can be seen as part of international peace movements; on the other hand, however, it also shows significant differences. Additionally, the discussion encompasses the inquiry into the divergence between sporting and physical struggle, on the one hand, and conventional values upheld by the Olympic sports movement, such as fairness, adherence to rules, and mutual respect, on the other.
