The plantation also contributes to increased job opportunities both in the planting industry and in downstream industries. This chapter reviews the socioeconomic impact of Eucalyptus plantations, with a focus on their contribution to local income. The key aspects discussed include employment, income generation, infrastructure development, natural resource availability, sources of wood, and food security. Knowledge gaps in the socioeconomic aspects of Eucalyptus plantations are also addressed. Ultimately, this study aims to clarify the prevailing uncertainties, skepticism, and debates surrounding the socioeconomic implications of Eucalyptus plantations. The way forward involves promoting site-specific land use planning, community engagement, and sustainable management practices to balance the socioeconomic benefits of Eucalyptus plantations with their environmental impacts.

摘要

Forest plantations ensure that natural forests can be conserved from further degradation. They also complement natural forests in sustainable management, especially in ensuring the long-term availability of Malaysian forest resources to cater to present and future needs. The development of forest plantation programs has become increasingly important worldwide, considering the significant impact of forest plantations on local communities. Eucalyptus plantations have been proven to improve the socioeconomics of society by providing the local community with greater prosperity.
