This chapter combines findings from the previous Chapters “Introduction”, “The Long History of the Recognition of Qualifications in the EU”, “Challenging Convention: Theory, Competences & The Grey Area of Recognition”, “Professional Recognition”, and “Academic Recognition” to examine possible deficiencies in the system for recognition of qualifications in the EU. The chapter shows that there are different ways in which instruments contribute to or effectuate recognition: by enhancing mutual trust or effectuating mutual recognition. An exercise is conducted based on this distinction to examine interrelationships between the different instruments included for analysis and to identify weaknesses in the resulting system for recognition. Suggestions are subsequently made to mitigate the weaknesses identified to arrive at a system for recognition that is encompassing and future-proof.

摘要
