The Emotional Sphere: Basic Concepts and Practical Applications
摘要
This chapter offers a thorough introduction to emotions, detailing their development from a disregarded topic in psychology to a vital field of research. It also looks at how emotions are used in emotional intelligence and regulation. Because of their intricacy and the conventional dualism that distinguished between irrational emotion and logical cognition, emotions were long disregarded. This erroneous distinction has been demolished by contemporary research, which demonstrates the connection between emotion and intellect. Reasoning, making decisions, and interacting with others all depend on emotions. Rapid, automatic impulses known as emotions assess things as either pleasurable or unpleasant and prime the body for either approach or avoidance behavior. They include both cognitive appraisal and physiological arousal, such as elevated heart rate. The chapter approaches both category and dimensional models of emotions, making a distinction between various affective experience kinds. After that, the concept of emotional intelligence (EI) is presented. Emotional intelligence (EI) is the capacity to recognize, absorb, comprehend, and control one's own emotions as well as those of others. Academic, professional, and interpersonal achievement are all correlated with high EI. It forecasts improved team performance, job satisfaction, negotiating results, and social competence. Emotional intelligence (EI) is essential for professionals like lawyers to properly collaborate, manage client emotions, and mediate disputes. Finally, emotion regulation is shown as a crucial procedure that can be applied in a range of situations. Various methods are explained, offering theoretical synopsis and practical guidance.
