On the Navigation of Uncertainties: Chaos, Entropy, and Technological Singularity
摘要
As the title of this chapter indicates, it concerns the possibilities of mastering the future. The negative Cartesian concept of uncertainty cannot encompass the actuality of events. Instead, it is the very logic of reality that characterizes reality in cognitive-theoretical insight, namely, certainty that being is what it is in the modality of its possibility as an actual necessity. Certainty, then, is certitudo and refers to human judgement about Being as such, speaking in Heideggerian terms. This judgement cannot generally be wrong, because truth should be understood scholastically as the correspondence of opinion with things. It is certain, for example, that contemporary global capitalism results from the technoscientific construction of reality as a network of events that appear cybernetically within the fourfold structure of information, feedback, control, and communication. Nothing from this new trans-classical logic can be «efficient», «useful», or «pragmatic». Moreover, this certainty cannot exist independently; it is a purely constructed concept grounded in probability within scientific theory.
