Retail spaces, beyond their primary purpose of promoting and encouraging consumption, are places where people meet, interact, communicate, and share experiences, which influence their lives and, consequently, their culture. This characteristic makes them fertile ground for integrating a cultural approach in the analysis of their sustainability, which is all the more important given that the cultural dimension of sustainability is becoming increasingly relevant. This chapter aims to stimulate debate on the potential for such integration by analysing the cultural significance of retail spaces and introducing the gender perspective in the interpretation of the design of retail environment.

摘要

Retail spaces, beyond their primary purpose of promoting and encouraging consumption, are places where people meet, interact, communicate, and share experiences, which influence their lives and, consequently, their culture. This characteristic makes them fertile ground for integrating a cultural approach in the analysis of their sustainability, which is all the more important given that the cultural dimension of sustainability is becoming increasingly relevant. This chapter aims to stimulate debate on the potential for such integration by analysing the cultural significance of retail spaces and introducing the gender perspective in the interpretation of the design of retail environment.
