Climate Change and Environmental Threats
摘要
Climate change has impacted tropical plants by warmer temperatures, droughts, floods, and unusual precipitation, such as hail. Páramos are tropical highland ecosystems that bear a non-continuous distribution in the Andes and are found at high altitudes. Plants inhabiting Páramos have adaptations to withstand high levels of ultraviolet and solar radiation, and wide daily temperature fluctuations. Páramo plants have morphological and physiological mechanisms that allow them to withstand both extremely low and high temperatures. Rubus nubigenus could have a high tolerance to extremely cold or hot temperatures, but more research is needed to determine the specific effect of climate change conditions on this species. The author observed that plants growing near the Chingaza National Park were not affected by climate change conditions. Rubus nubigenus is currently a least concern species and is not facing extinction or vulnerability threats. Agricultural expansion, coupled with deforestation and livestock grazing, are the major environmental threats to R. nubigenus in its native habitat.
