Floral Morphology, Phenology, and Pollination
摘要
The flowers of Rubus nubigenus Kunth are borne on inflorescences called terminal panicles. Other authors report that the inflorescence is a compound cyme. The author found 6–10 flowers per inflorescence bearing from 20 to 40 stamens and 80 to 100 carpels. Flowers range in length from 30.91 to 40.55 mm near the Chingaza National Park. Petals are red, pink, purple, or magenta and suborbicular or nearly circular with veins on the outer side. The sepals are acuminate with long pointed tips, light green, and bear reddish trichomes. R. nubigenus is an everbearing species, which produces fruits and flowers throughout the year. Hummingbirds have been observed visiting the flowers of Rubus nubigenus in Chingaza National Park at 3500 m above sea level. The author observed Oxypogon guerinii and Coeligena torquata visiting the flowers of R. nubigenus. Other floral visitors include Coleoptera and Hymenoptera.
