Cellulose acetate-based films were prepared using the casting method. Cellulose acetate was chosen as the base matrix for several advantages, including its biodegradability, low cost, and good thermal stability compared with several polymers such as starch, PVA, and chitosan. To test the effect of natural plasticizers based on essential oils, compared with a usual CA plasticizer, quantities of essential oil were added to the films, with the same concentration as the glycerol added. The films produced were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and FT-IR analysis, which showed the compatibility between the essential oil and the CA polymer and the plasticizing effect of the essential oils on the films, similar to that of the glycerol effect. In addition, the films incorporating the essential oils showed very significant antibacterial activity against E. coli bacteria.

摘要
