Bacon’s Unsettled Life and Extraordinary Works

Sir Francis Bacon’s Essays, the first of his books I read, made me realize that it is not possible to understand his ideas without considering his complex life. Pursuing both intellectual and political aims in Elizabeth I and James I times was no mean feat. He had to achieve a precarious balance between philosophical musings and power machinations; however separate he claimed them to be, they leveraged each other.
