Driver Drowsiness Detection Using ESP8266 and OpenCV
摘要
Driver drowsiness is a significant contributing factor in a large proportion of global road accidents. In response to this problem, this paper suggests a real-time IoT based driver drowsiness detection and warning system intended for monitoring and responding to fatigue indicators beforehand. The suggested system takes advantage of the ESP8266 Wi-Fi module to allow wireless data transfer for easy interfacing with cloud services and web-based monitoring tools. The system architecture includes a non-intrusive eye blink sensor that monitors the driver’s eyelid movement in real time at all times to identify unusual patterns of drowsiness, including extended closure of the eyes. A microcontroller unit interprets sensor information in real time and initiates an immediate response through an onboard buzzer to warn the driver. At the same time, the system records the event and sends the information to a far server via the ESP8266 module for centralized data storage, analysis, and remote access by interested parties like fleet operators or traffic authorities. This IoT-supported design improves the system’s energy efficiency and scalability as a whole by allowing data-driven intervention and real-time monitoring. The low power, cost-effectiveness, and deploy ability of the system make it an ideal candidate for extensive deployment on commercial and private vehicles. Through this study, we hope to contribute to enhanced vehicular safety by reducing driver drowsiness risks through affordable and smart IoT technology.
