Green Startups and the Triple Bottom Line: Economic, Social, and Environmental Pathways to Sustainable Development
摘要
Startups are one of the key drivers of a country’s development. Startups that focus on green initiatives enhance the environmental, social, and economic dimensions, thereby promoting global sustainability. These startups are referred to as green startups. They are young firms that engage in these fields, creating positive environmental benefits. This conceptual study aims to enter the galaxy of green startups and their relation to the Triple Bottom Line (TBL) framework. The methodology employed in the study is the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) protocol. Fifty-nine papers were selected from the Scopus database, and after excluding papers based on scope, forty-nine papers were considered for review. This study aims to analyze the relationship between green startups and the TBL framework and their contributions to sustainability. The study reveals that the TBL dimensions and green startups are interrelated and contribute to sustainability. In the social dimension, green startups create employment opportunities and support entrepreneurship development, and higher education contributes to the sustainability and development of green startups. In the environmental dimension, green startups promote sustainable and eco-friendly innovation, and in the economic dimension, they face challenges in accessing finance, but they survive by attracting venture capital and external funding. This study provides insights for policymakers, scholars, and environmental practitioners who deal with green practices and sustainability, which have not been fully addressed in prior research.
