Suturing II
摘要
Once trainees have learned and practiced placing individual sutures, they must consider the planning of wound repair overall. Sutures change throughout the healing process and interact with each other as the tension is distributed across the wound. Proper suture placement is needed to precisely approximate wound edges and create a watertight seal needed to prevent infection in ophthalmic surgery (Hausheer, editor. Basic techniques of ophthalmic surgery. 3rd ed. American Academy of Ophthalmology; 2019). Depending on the wound and tissue, trainees should be able to select the appropriate suture and design suture placement sequences to fit the repair.
