This chapter examines the evolution of STEM education policy in the United States from 1957 to 2025, analyzing how federal initiatives have responded to global competition while addressing educational equity. Beginning with Sputnik’s launch, the analysis traces landmark legislation through successive presidential administrations. The chapter reveals persistent tensions between excellence and equity, federal oversight and local control, and immediate workforce demands versus long-term scientific advancement in American STEM education policy.
