Since its establishment on 1 June 2021, the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) has markedly strengthened its institutional capacity to combat financial and economic crime. Through the integration of advanced digital technologies, the EPPO has focused its operational priorities on complex transnational offences, particularly VAT carousel fraud and forms of organized financial crime. This strategic orientation has resulted in a significant expansion of investigative activities and asset recovery operations, as reflected in the growing number of indictments and the increasing value of assets frozen across member states. The evolving nature of financial criminality demands the adoption of sophisticated investigative methodologies, in which digital tools and forensic analytics play a pivotal role in enhancing detection capabilities and fostering cross-border cooperation. The findings highlight the necessity of continuous innovation in digital forensics and data-driven investigative systems to effectively address the escalating complexity of financial offences and to safeguard the financial interests of the European Union.

摘要
