摘要

A major vitality of Africa’s call to reform the SC stems from the very foundation of the UN, whereby almost all of Africa was under colonial rule by the time the UN was established thereby restricting the purview of the organization. Africa remains a continent without a single permanent seat despite the majority of the resolutions of the SC and peacekeeping missions being in the continent. Western powers dominated the drafting of these resolutions. The other vitalities of Africa’s quest to reform the Council include the coordination of the three African non-permanent members in the SC as African Three (A3) bringing political synchronization among the three countries and with the AU Peace and Security Council, the activities of the Committee of Ten (C-10), the insistent calls of African leaders at different fora, and the documents released by the SG, that is, Our Common Agenda and New Agenda for Peace.
