The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are at the heart of the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda, which was adopted in 2015. Since then, this agenda has symbolized the call to “transform our world.” All countries were called upon to pursue the 17 sustainability goals and integrate them into their national development strategies. The emergence of the SDGs was a lengthy process—from the development of the idea to the recognition of the need for action to implementation at the international and national levels.
