Inheritance Elite
摘要
This chapter dissects the behaviour of the inheritance elite, the custodian of the Lugardian Architecture, regarding the choice of a successor to the outgoing President Buhari. The platforms were the PDP and APC, and the process was the party primaries. Despite the national understanding among the ruling elite from the North and South on the rotation of power between the two sections of the country, the North was reluctant to abide by it. However, a section of the inheritance elite, domiciled in the ruling party, favoured a power shift as a stabilising measure for the polity, while others, largely in the opposition PDP, held out.
