This chapter is about the elements of power, put differently, the crucibles of power that constitute the Lugardian Architecture. These include control of the military, the state’s material force, the instrumentalisation of Islamic religion, and the rhetoric of a unified North. They often bear on power politics, leading to the triumph of ethno-religious chauvinism and the detriment of national unity.
