Black Women Turning Words into Action: Training, Writing, and Resistance
摘要
Mulheres do Ler is a grassroots organization that encourages literacy, critical analysis and deep personal engagement among peripheral Black women in the Baixada Fluminense community of greater Rio de Janeiro. Educators Fumero and Cunha trace the significance of culturally responsive education to vulnerable peripheral Black women who face racism, sexism and poverty in the education system. Collective reading and writing is an extension of communal care. This chapter demonstrates how Fumero and Cunha’s organizing of Black women not only facilitates their ability to write their own narratives, but also to advance collective resistance at the margins.RacismCommunityDjamila RibeiroRacismOppression.
