Design And Construction of an Information System for a Tandem Bicycle Aimed at People with Visual Impairments
摘要
This work details the design, construction, and implementation of an information system for a tandem bicycle aimed at visually impaired individuals, contributing to the development of assistive technologies that help improve the quality of life of these individuals. The main objective of this project is to provide information on data that is considered relevant to visually impaired individuals when they are cycling on a tandem bicycle in the company of a guide. To achieve this, a complete prototype design was developed, which is based on a user-centered methodology and is divided into two parts: the wireless control device, which is placed on the forearm of the visually impaired person and allows requesting information from six variables; and the central system, which is located on the front of the bike and is responsible for data acquisition and processing. The information system is equipped with Bluetooth technology and uses Wi-Fi to access TTS technology, which provides auditory feedback to the user. Both parts of the project have rechargeable batteries for operation. In addition, an electromechanical charging subsystem was implemented for the central system, which generates energy from the movement of the bicycle. The construction of the different structural components of the information system was carried out through additive manufacturing. The design and implementation of the functional prototype were validated through field tests conducted within the university premises and surrounding areas.
