摘要
To help cover my tuition and living costs at Harvard, I secured a teaching assistant (TA) position in the HarvardHarvard Teaching Assistantship engineering school where I was enrolled to do a PhD in applied mathematicsHarvard PhD program in applied mathematics. Since I had done an honors course in the theory of complex variablesTheory of complex variables as an undergraduate, I was going to be a TA in this subject. However, when tested on some complex variableComplex variables class at Harvard problems by the chair of the applied mathematicsHarvard PhD program in applied mathematics program, he concluded that I should take this course for credit because of its more applied orientation. Did I lose the TA? No, the chair did not know of any rules at Harvard that prevented me from both taking the course for credit and being a TA for it.
