Antioxidants have reinitiated interest among the researchers due to their varied benefits in clinical settings. The chapter provides an in-depth structural comparison of antioxidants, based on their origin–natural or synthetic. They may either be endogenous or dietary. Additionally, various antioxidants can be identified within the categories of inorganic, Ayurvedic, or Unani drug substances. Furthermore, it outlines the structure-activity relationship, SAR of the compounds exhibiting antioxidant activity, as well as their probable mechanisms of action. The quantitative structure-activity relationship, QSAR, is also described in relation to the potential action of the compounds, with the use of software like SPARTAN, DRAGON, QSARINS, SPPS, CQSAR, etc. The chapter illustrates various oxidative stress-mediated diseases that can be addressed with antioxidants, along with an overview of the relevant patents pertaining to the same.
