Examining the Effectiveness of a Violence Prevention Program on Gang Youth
摘要
Gun violence and injury are concentrated among small numbers of people, places, and networks and disproportionately impact young men of color. Project Life is an American violence prevention program designed to educate youth and their families about the consequences of illegal gun use and acts of violence against others. Youth assigned to the program are between the ages of 13–18 and are serving sentences for offenses involving a firearm, ranging from reckless discharge to armed robbery. We will describe the court-ordered program and the study cohort. Our analysis will focus on youths who self-report involvement with gangs. We will examine similarities and differences in program completion recidivism. We will also compare this sub-sample to similar gun-involved youth who do not report gang involvement.
