The proliferation of English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) in Higher Education HE has created both opportunities and challenges. EMI programs offer to the HE institutions the opportunity to internationalize their education and to strengthen their reputation. They also contribute to the enhancement of students’ career prospects. Nevertheless, EMI students may face several challenges to succeed because of the requirements of such programs; in non-English native countries, they have to understand specialized content in English. This research explores the impact of Artificial Intelligence Tools (AIT) on EMI students’ capacity to effectively “comprehend, analyze, synthesize, and apply knowledge” in a foreign language within an academic setting. Through a case study conducted in a Business Master’s in a Moroccan public university, findings reveal the AIT contribute to reduce EMI students’ cognitive load and enhance their metacognitive awareness and cognitive flexibility. AIT serve also as a cognitive scaffolding. These results have significant implications for HE in terms of teaching methods to adapt and to adopt for effective EMI settings.
