Stochastic Petri Nets for Performance Evaluation of a Hospital Purchasing Process

Purchasing Process is the upstream part of a Supply Chain System. This paper proposes the modeling and performance evaluation of a Hospital Purchasing Process using Stochastic Petri Nets (SPN). SPN is a special type of Petri Nets, with timed transitions, whose firing time is exponentially distributed. The purchasing process is a “mix” of 2 hospital purchasing processes, in order to perform comprehensive simulation, using PIPEv4 Petri Net software. The simulation results and the calculated performance indices can be used to improve the purchasing process.
