Is it Possible to Adapt the Mediterranean Diet to Young People’s Lifestyle?
摘要
The Mediterranean Diet (MD) is characterized by the use of olive oil as the main fat, a high consumption of plant-based foods, medium to low consumption of animal-based products, with a focus on seasonal, local, and fresh ingredients. It is also defined by its cultural and culinary practices typical of Mediterranean countries, such as conviviality, regular physical activity, and adequate rest, and presents various health benefits. Despite being one of the healthiest diets, adherence has been decreasing over the years. In this sense, the focus of this study was to understand the knowledge of young adults from Mediterranean countries (Italy, Portugal, Spain, and Türkiye) regarding the MD, through co-creation groups. This study found that young adults’ eating habits from all countries are similar to those of people adhering to the MD, focusing on home-cooked meals, and that they demonstrate a solid understanding of the principles and composition, and show openness to exploring innovative recipes that align with its principles.
