The wine sector is currently engaged in the search for actions to address climate change. However, the adoption of mitigation measures is not obvious and requires specific carbon footprint management knowledge. What is more, the organizational culture of the company often conditions the adoption of mitigation measures. In this context, the Vid-Expert project has developed an intelligent software tool capable of calculating the carbon footprint of a wine-growing organization, proposing mitigation measures adapted to each particular case and monitoring its evolution over time. Based on the Methodological Recommendations for accounting for Greenhouse Gas balance in the Vitivinicultural Sector of the International Organization of Vine and Wine, the tool provides a comprehensive carbon footprint calculation and identifies the most relevant emission sources. It consequently suggests mitigation measures prioritized by their cost-benefit ratio and aligned with the characteristics and culture of the wine company. This software tool can be used for any professional of the wine sector without allocating external resources. The Vid-Expert tool allows for the comprehensive management of carbon footprint and mitigation plans, from a continuous improvement process perspective.
