Research Methods to Unveil L2 Teachers’ Cultural Identity

Chapter 5 aims to deal with the research methods to unveil different aspects of L2 teachers’ cultural identity. In this chapter, I have attempted to elaborate on the intricate tapestry of L2 teachers’ cultural identity and the ways in which various philosophical research paradigms are intertwined with this exploration. Next, the three main research methods, including qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods, are explained in accompany with their typologies and how to use them when researching L2 teachers’ cultural identity. In the third section of Chap. 5 , I have provided metaphors to clarify how to choose the most appropriate research method when L2 researchers investigate L2 teachers’ cultural identity: The “compass” and “navigating the journey” metaphors for research in L2 teachers’ cultural identity. Finally, I go through the main concepts that have been addressed in the research related to L2 teachers’ cultural identity and the ones that need further examination.
