Introduction
摘要
Examining globalization and its social effects on traditional communities is often highlighted in broader, favorable terms. However, the devastating impact on the economies of smaller, predominantly isolated communities is often overlooked because of an emphasis on the benefits of international trade and intercultural exchanges. The rise of the internet and groundbreaking innovations in transportation have brought distant places closer, successfully integrating them into a global network that bridges existing divides and fosters economic and cultural interdependence. This book examines the Jola traditions and culture from an evolutionary perspective, discussing how the economic systems of these isolated communities impacted their ability to maintain traditional and cultural identities in a rapidly changing world characterized by global interconnectedness.
