The Military and Election Administration in Nigeria: A Case Study of the June 12, 1993 Election
摘要
This chapter examines the role of the military in the electoral process in Nigeria, with a focus on the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election. Military incursion into the Nigerian political landscape has shaped the country’s democratic process, as the culture of force has dominated its political landscape. This chapter argues that while the conduct of the June 12, 1993 presidential election was fraught with deliberate sabotage, its annulment has made a watershed in the country’s political history. The current democratic dispensation, since 1999, has benefited from the consequences of the military action.
