The Role of Youth and Education in Promoting a Green Future
摘要
Due to increasing environmental challenges, youth engagement through education has become essential for advancing sustainability. This study investigates how educational systems, focusing on the Republic of Armenia, can empower young people to become active agents of environmental change. Drawing on interdisciplinary literature, national policy analysis, and global and local education surveys with 61 participants, it identifies effective strategies for integrating environmental education into formal and informal learning environments. The research explores the role of eco-pedagogy, curriculum innovation, and youth-led initiatives in shaping sustainable attitudes, behaviors, and competencies. In Armenia, where deforestation, water scarcity, and air pollution remain urgent, findings reveal that early engagement, experiential learning, and participatory approaches significantly enhance youth commitment to ecological stewardship. Despite structural challenges, recent reforms and grassroots initiatives demonstrate growing momentum toward environmental education. The study suggests a model to align educational practices with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), emphasizing the role of youth in fostering resilient, inclusive, and green societies. This research contributes to global discussions on education for sustainable development and youth empowerment in transitional contexts.
