Shift-Left Performance Engineering: Embedding Performance Metrics into CI/CD Pipelines for Sustainable Development
摘要
The integration of performance engineering early in the software development lifecycle—commonly known as shift-left performance engineering—plays a critical role in enhancing application quality while reducing time and cost overheads. This research explores embedding performance metrics directly into Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines to enable real-time monitoring, early detection of performance bottlenecks, and proactive optimization. By aligning these practices with sustainable development principles, the framework promotes efficient resource utilization, energy savings, and long-term maintainability of software systems. Experimental evaluation demonstrates improved performance visibility, faster feedback loops, and reduced technical debt, supporting both business agility and environmental sustainability goals. The findings advocate for a holistic approach to performance engineering that balances rapid delivery with sustainable software practices.
