Cork is a natural material whose unique combination of properties makes it highly suitable for aircraft flooring applications. Owing to its cellular microstructure, cork exhibits excellent vibration and acoustic damping capabilities, which are key requirements for flooring materials in aviation. In addition, its low density offers a distinct advantage for weight-sensitive aerospace structures. Other critical requirements, such as flame retardancy, can also be achieved in cork through the application of various surface treatments and modifications. This chapter provides an overview of cork-based structures developed for aircraft flooring. It gives the mechanical performance of cork, with particular emphasis on its compressive response, a fundamental property for flooring applications. Furthermore, the chapter discusses the flame-retardant behavior of treated cork, as well as its vibration and acoustic damping performance when incorporated into laminated composites.
