Tourism Seasonality in the Era of Artificial Intelligence
摘要
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative force capable of smoothing demand fluctuations and improving operational efficiency in tourism. This chapter traces the cyclical evolution of AI from early theoretical foundations to the current era of deep learning and generative models. It identifies key opportunities for seasonal management, including advanced demand forecasting, dynamic pricing strategies, and hyper-personalized travel recommendations. AI tools function as strategic stabilizers by optimizing resource allocation and workforce planning in response to real-time market signals. However, significant implementation barriers persist, such as high capital costs, data fragmentation, and a widespread digital skills gap within the tourism sector. Ethical concerns regarding privacy, algorithmic bias, and the risks of over-reliance on automation also demand proactive governance and collective investment models. From an economic perspective, AI adoption is framed through the lens of technological change and market optimization, where it helps reduce information asymmetries and transaction costs. By balancing technical innovation with human oversight and ethical guardrails, destinations can leverage AI to foster more resilient and sustainable tourism systems. The chapter emphasizes that AI is not a standalone solution but a tool that requires human intelligence and ethical stewardship to be truly effective.
