Hierarchical organizations filter information as it moves upward, creating barriers to effective leadership. This paper presents three organizational patterns that supplement formal channels by legitimizing informal networks, enabling leaders to access authentic operational knowledge, unfiltered insights from experienced practitioners, and maintain context during transitions. By establishing direct connections with operational expertise, creating cross-functional knowledge networks, and managing transitions back to work after extended absences, these patterns provide actionable strategies for more informed decision-making.

摘要

Hierarchical organizations filter information as it moves upward, creating barriers to effective leadership. This paper presents three organizational patterns that supplement formal channels by legitimizing informal networks, enabling leaders to access authentic operational knowledge, unfiltered insights from experienced practitioners, and maintain context during transitions. By establishing direct connections with operational expertise, creating cross-functional knowledge networks, and managing transitions back to work after extended absences, these patterns provide actionable strategies for more informed decision-making.
