Overactive bladder (OAB) syndrome is defined as urinary urge, usually accompanied by frequency and nocturia, with or without urgency urinary incontinence, in the absence of urinary tract infection or other obvious pathology. Detrusor overactivity (DO) is the underlying mechanism behind OAB and there are several theories as to its aetiology. Common medical therapies include anticholinergics, β3 adrenoceptor agonists and Botulinum Type-A toxin.
