Helminths are parasitic worms and protozoa eukaryotic unicellular organisms. Bilharzia, Filariasis and Hydatid disease are the commonest helminthic diseases pertinent to the urinary tract, whilst Trichomonas and Malaria are the protozoans that can present with urological symptoms. Whilst public health measures, and prophylaxis, can help prevent all these diseases, medication is sometimes required as part of the treatment of asymptomatic, or symptomatic, patients.
