Uses of Technology in Psychological Assessment Practices

This chapter reviews literature about the integration of technology into the process of psychological assessment. The authors explore the historical context of assessment in psychology and traditional administration and scoring techniques. The purpose of assessment, differences between assessment and testing, and the discriminatory history of assessment are discussed. The authors further explain how technology has been integrated into each step of the assessment process, discussing pros and cons of these advancements. Further discussions on the integration of technology in other areas of psychology are raised. This review serves as an introduction into the integration of technology in assessment for medical professionals and an exploration into the history of assessment, challenges and barriers of psychological assessment, and the benefits of modernizing the process.
