The primary purpose of the synchronous machine is to generate electricity. The synchronous generator contributes to power system stability because of its built-in ability to operate at a steady frequency. We begin the study of these machines reviewing the components of the synchronous machine. According to the synchronous speed, various configurations emerge from this knowledge. This chapter also shows the operation of the asynchronous machine by analyzing the characteristics curves of the synchronous machine.
