Engineering pedagogy focuses its attention not only on the didactics of professional subjects, but also on the development of teachers in vocational education. A teacher in vocational education often has more demanding tasks within the framework of teaching, he must be able not only to communicate with pupils and their parents, work with different motivations for learning in his pupils, but also to work with different abilities and skills of pupils within the framework of vocational education. The paper presents an example of the possibility of developing teachers in vocational education through the psychological approach of transactional analysis. Specifically, through the TAPATE model, which was developed in Great Britain by Julie Hay. The contribution includes basic information about the model and also presents a case study of a novice teacher at a secondary vocational school. It also includes possible further use of the TAPATE model in the environment of engineering pedagogy. The contribution is both in the area of ​​developing didactic abilities and skills of teachers, but also in preventing early termination of employment as a teacher among novice teachers.
