Bloom’s Taxonomy to Innovate Learning Objectives at Ethiopian University of Applied Sciences Study Programmes
摘要
In Ethiopia, like in most emerging countries, engineering education is considered the nation’s engine of economic development and industrialization. A series of engineering education institutions are providing engineering and technical training at the vocational and higher educational levels. However, the Ethiopian industry complains that rarely graduates are employable. Due to that, the Ethiopian Ministry of Education provides training to the graduates to fill their knowledge and skills gap. Considering these training sessions as a cure against the pain, it is important to analyze the cause of the pain. This research is focusing on the cognitive dimension of learning objectives and the knowledge dimension as the generally known Bloom’s Taxonomy. Based on a survey on engineering education in Africa, the findings from that research gain relevance beyond Ethiopia. - The literature review goes back to the original edition of the Taxonomy of Learning Objectives—The Classification of Educational Goals from 1956, linked with literature from more contemporary research on this topic. The findings are connected with the Ethiopian situation towards an improved engineering education at Universities of Applied Sciences.
