Artificial Intelligence as Teacher Assistant - Empowering VET Teachers with AI
摘要
The VETAssIst project explores how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can support teachers in vocational education and training (VET) by acting as a “digital assistant” in routine and more creative pedagogical tasks. While AI tools and educational platforms are becoming increasingly available, many educators lack the competencies necessary for their effective use, and most such tools and available use cases were designed for general education and lack alignment with VET-specific needs. VETAssIst addressed this gap by systematically evaluating 37 freely available AI tools based on accessibility, usability, pedagogical value, and ethical considerations. These evaluations inform the design of an open-access e-learning course to help VET teachers integrate AI into their teaching, including lesson planning, content creation, assessment, and student engagement. The course, structured as a modular MOOC, will include real-world use cases, practical assignments, and video tutorials. Anticipated outcomes include increased AI literacy, more confident AI use among educators, and a replicable model for AI integration in VET. The project emphasizes ethical and context-aware implementation, aiming to bridge the gap between AI innovation and practical teaching needs in VET across Hungary, Germany, Serbia, and Slovakia.
