The growing influence and importance of AI in society is leading to a surge of interest among practitioners in the potential of AI as an educational tool in schools. However, the debate on the introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) in schools raises a number of questions regarding its practical application, ethical considerations and the readiness of the school environment for these technological innovations. But how do teachers in Slovakia themselves perceive artificial intelligence? The main purpose of our research was to analyse the level of awareness and attitudes of teachers in Slovakia towards AI applied in the educational process by administering a research instrument. The results of the research indicate that Slovak teachers (N = 417) perceive artificial intelligence as an innovative tool with great potential for improving teaching and personalizing the educational process. At the same time, however, they stress the need for a careful and thoughtful introduction of AI into the school environment, while the lack of relevant knowledge about AI, the need for methodological guidance, and issues related to its effective and ethical application remain crucial challenges. The main focus of the paper is on looking at the current attitudes of Slovak teachers towards AI, identifying the main problems and potential benefits of its implementation in Slovak education.
